Well, here we are... it's Reflections time once again and I wish to take a moment to bring everyone up to date on the Pleasant Street School. Though we remain focused on saving the building, its owner has proven to be even more elusive than usual over this past winter. However, that was somewhat out of his control:.. he has suffered from two serious illness in the last 5-6 months, at least one of which required extended hospitalization. On top of that, during the same time period, he has been going through an unfriendly divorce, which made forging a business deal all but impossible. In an attempt to break the logjam, we recently explored yet another avenue... through a local real estate agency. They formally approached the owner in February with an offer to broker a deal with us but to date, he has not responded. Now for the good news... there is some! The owner has regained his health and informed us that he and his wife (ex) recently agreed upon a settlement in their, divorce. This leaves room for progress. |
I also wish to take this opportunity to give everyone a very quick review. We are presently addressing the investigation stage of the project (structural,- asbestos and environmental issues) with the unanimous support of the Board of Directors. We have quotations for all the required work and sufficient commitment to assure us that it will be paid for by dedicated independent donations. The only thing we need is access to the building! With regard to the stabilization and restoration stages to follow, a business plan, which will include calculated costs and proposed funding, is being initiated. |
