Almost a year and a half have passed in the Alumni Association's attempt to initiate action to save the Pleasant Street School. thus supporting the old adage, "Good things take time." We have learned that the owner of the building will most likely not be simply donating it to the Alumni Association and the Pleasant Street School Committee has spent the better part of the last four to five months developing a plan defining the different scenarios under which work might proceed in order to accomplish the investigation stage of the project, the asbestos, architectural and environmental reviews. |
During this time period, two major steps were taken. First, because the process has become more complicated, the role of the local construction manager who has been advising the committee was expanded to include overall project management duties. Second, the committee has enlisted the services of a local attorney to draw up an agreement based on the requirements of the project and the necessity to safeguard both parties. This 'contract' has been completed and signed by an officer of the board but rejected (with comments) by the building owner… negotiations continue as I write. |
