Steven Wade is known as a 'pied piper' at SCU where students are a continual part of his life not only in the areas of education, career planning, job opportunities, and matters of the economy, but also in matters of life issues and personal hardship. His teaching colleagues have said that "..no one does it better [than Steve]..to instill competence, conscience and compassion in the service of others."
But teaching is only part of a life that includes numerous charitable activities such as founding the Santa Clara Tax and Finance Clinic to help over 300 needy families; founding Mercy Beyond Borders to alleviate profound poverty in Sudan; serving on the board and as Treasurer of Community Health Awareness Council of Mountain View, which counsels at-risk students; and serving as Treasurer for Survivor International to assist refugees and victims of torture; and as director of Lawyers Without Borders.
In the past, Mr. Wade was on the Board of Catholic Charities of San Jose and in 2003 was one of only nine nominees for the organization’s National Volunteer of the Year award. In that same year, Steven won the Volunteer of the Year award from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Committee on Refugees and Migration in 2003. He is married and has two children. Steve counts several family members as longtime former SHS faculty, including Ms. Katherine Spencer, and Edith and Jarvis Wade.
