Peter J. Palmer is a product of the Masonville Elementary School and member of the SCS High School Class of 1972. Pete's independent thinking in his classes and his team mentality on both the football field and basketball court served as training for his future military calling in which he became one of the ½% of West Point graduates to advance to rank of General
In his early career Peter served as Platoon Leader, Battalion Commander, Company Combat Trainer, Joint Plans Officer US Army Europe, Professor at United States Naval War College, Chief of Staff and then Commander of the 1st Infantry Division US Army Europe and Seventh Army Germany. More recently he served as Commander of 'Task Force Falcon' in Kosovo, and Commander, Battle Command Training Program in Leavenworth, Kansas.
Appointed Brigadier General in April 2005, Peter has also served as Director of Strategic Operations, Multi-National Forces, in Iraq and led peacekeeping operations in Afghanistan. During his career, he has improved the 'Quality of Life' of countless numbers of cadets and soldiers and citizens of. this and other countries and has -demonstrated his extraordinary 'Leadership' capabilities.
Now as Director of the Capabilities Development Division of the U.S. Army Capabilities Integration Center, Fort Monroe, Virginia, Peter is responsible for designing and integrating multiple force programs into cohesive interagency and multinational operations.
As established by the Delaware County Historian, BG Palmer appears to be the only 'Army' General from Delaware County, NY since the Civil War. He is the proud possessor of numerous decorations, medals and badges including Legion of Merit (with Oak Leaf Clusters), Meritorious Service Medal (with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Joint Service Commendation Medal, and Commendation Medals from both the Army and Navy.
