James W. McIntyre was one of Sidney's best scholars and athletes. He was a member of Honor Society, Varsity Club, and was a- class and student council officer. He was the winner of the Ralph F. Pyle Memorial Trophy for four years of outstanding athletic record.
Now a retired Brigadier General of the United States Air Force, James McIntyre had a thirty year military career in which he accumulated over 3,000 flying hours, was responsible for revitalizing pilot training in the Air Force, chaired a negotiating team to create the EURO-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training program, won the Department of Defense Installation Excellence Award, and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Citation.
Mr. McIntyre was a Squadron Commander, a Chief of Training Programs, an Air Force Base Commander, Wing Commander, Director of Bases and Units in Washington DC, Director of Plans for NORAD, Executive Director of Military Pay Commission.
As a veteran of Viet Nam he was the
recipient- of the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Meritorious
Service Medal with 3 Oak Clusters, Air Medal with 2 Oak Clusters,
Presidential Unit Citation, National Defense Medal, and Republic
of Viet Nam Gallantry Cross with Palm, to name only a few. James
McIntyre is the first Air Force General from Delaware County.
His community service includes serving as a Director of the South Texas Plains Food Bank, Inc.; Director of Executive Service Corps in San Antonio giving pro bono consultancy to community organizations; Chairman of United Way Federal Employee campaign in Lubbock Texas; and Overseer of medical services to underprivileged and uninsured persons in South Texas.
