Borrowing the words from Myron Kipp's obituary that appeared in the local Sidney Paper on December 11, 1958; "It would be impossible to give a history of the village of Sidney without making frequent mention of Mr. Kipp, for he was involved in every important activity that took place during his long career as a businessman in the Sidney Community." Mr. Kipp belonged to a generation of civic leaders whose foresight, dedication and love for Sidney helped create an idyllic community where families from all economic backgrounds could have the benefit of home ownership, raise their children in a tranquil community setting, receive a quality education and enjoy a piece of the good life. In a real sense it can be said the Myron Kipp '01 was responsible for many of us being able to call Sidney our hometown.

Myron J. Kipp started a successful Grocery Business in 1904 and operated it on Main Street Sidney for 50 years prior to selling it in 1954 to Don D'Imperio (Don's Supermarket). He served as a lifelong member of the Sidney Chamber of Commerce including two terms as President. He was a member of the Sidney Board of Education and President of the board when the High School on Pleasant and Liberty was built. Mr. Kipp served as Postmaster from 1932-1936.

Mr. Kipp demonstrated foresight and vision by playing an instrumental role in bringing Scintilla to Sidney and averting economic disaster for the community following the loss of the silk mill, a devastating fire and the collapse of Hatfield Motor Company. He helped bring NY State Police Troop C headquarters to Sidney, establish the Sidney Golf & Country Club, was selected "Man of the Years" by the Sidney Chamber of Commerce and was cited as a prominent community leader in the March 1951 Saturday Evening Post article "The Village we can't do without."
