Walter Johnson served as Senior Class President and graduated from Sidney High School with honors. Already marked for leadership, Mr.Johnson remained in Sidney his entire life and led a life in farming. Respected by all, his produce stand on old New York Route 8 was an acknowledged Sidney 'landmark' for decades.

He served as State Director of Delaware County Holstein Club, was a member of the New York State Advisory Council on Minimum Wage Standards for Farmers, and was an honorary New York State Farmer.

Often quoted as saying "You don't live your life for yourself, you live it for others!" Walter Johnson practiced what he preached: He was a lifelong member of Rotary and served as its President from 1973-74. He served on the Sidney Central School Board for twelve years, seven of them as President.

He also served as a Town Councilman from 1974-1985 and as Town Supervisor from 1986-1997, a span of twenty-three years.

Recognized in 1984 as Sidney's Citizen of the Years, Walter Johnson's entire life was dedicated to living in Sidney, making his contribution to the betterment of Sidney Schools' education, providing leadership in the community, fulfilling his civic responsibility in every possible way, and offering friendship to all.
