Anna K. Heimer came to Sidney in 1940 and taught until her untimely death in early, 1968. She had earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the College of St. Rose, a Master of Science degree from Syracuse University and engaged in additional studies at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Colgate University and Oneonta State Teachers College.
She taught commercial subjects and Shorthand and all the branches of mathematics offered in grades 10, 11 and 12: Algebra, Solid Geometry, Trigonometry, Math 12X and, in 1962, Calculus. In 1963 her students tested at a level placing them above ninety percent of all high school students in the country.
She was a Past President of the Sidney Teachers' Association, a member of New York State Mathematics Teachers' Association, the National Education Association, the National Council for Mathematics, and a charter member of the Sidney Business and Professional Women's Club of Sidney.
One of her principals wrote, "Anna Heimer was superior teacher that every principal likes to have." One student wrote "..she is the one who is chiefly responsible for my becoming a teacher." And an other, "She actually forced me to accomplish things that I always should have and could have, but had little desire to attempt."
