Class of 1974 Creates Scholarship to
Honor the Life of Regina Reynolds
By Susan Fessenden Jones `74

To commemorate their 30th year class reunion, the Sidney Alumni Class of '74 is in the process of establishing a Memorial Scholarship in tribute to their former classmate Reggie Reynolds. It will be called the Regina "Reggie" Reynolds Memorial Scholarship.

We want the legacy of her life to carry on - to continue to, survive in the earth, in the hearts of those who knew her and loved her. For indeed everyone who knew Reggie, loved her. Everyone has his or her own special memories of Reggie.

Reggie was very much her own person: independent, self-assured and unafraid to express her thoughts, emotions, and ideas. She was very involved - in school, in the community, and in life. She embraced life. She had a sense of purpose, more so than the average student her age. She valued her family. She valued her friends. She valued the environment. She valued life. She wanted to make this world a better place. And she did. She's still reaching us and touching us through her life.

It is through this Memorial Scholarship that Reggie will continue to touch people's lives. The scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior who shows the same promise for the future and embraces life the way that Reggie did.

We, the Class of 1974, desire to have the memory of Reggie's life celebrated and remembered in a way in which she deserves.

A senior from the graduating class of 2004 will be selected as the first recipient to receive this award in June. The Class of '74 is hoping to make this an annual scholarship award.

The criteria for selecting a graduating senior, one who has been accepted into an accredited two or four year college or university, is still in the process of being finalized. Reggie was a member of Band, Student Council, and the National Honor Society, to name just a few. She was very involved in athletics and a Sportsmanship Award whs established in her honor. Almost everyone is aware of the Tree Rededication Ceremony that took place Alumni Weekend, 2002 in Reggie's honor. The tree represents Reggie's love of trees and nature as well as her desire to study Conservation and Natural Resources in college.

We will always miss Reggie. We will always love her. We will never forget her. Her life deserves to be remembered. We hope we can count on your support.

Contributions to this scholarship can be made out to "Dollars for Scholars". Please send your tax-deductible donation to the attention of Shirley Finch at the Sidney Federal Credit Union, 42 Union St., Sidney, NY 13838. Be sure to designate it for the Reggie Reynolds Memorial Scholarship fund.
