**A Journey of Discipline, Dreams, and Dedication**Marc Cerbone grew up in a small town in upstate New York and ultimately made his mark on the Olympic mound in Sydney, Australia. His life has been shaped by a relentless pursuit of excellence-on the field, in his service to others, and in his character.
**Where It All Began - Sidney High School (1988-1992)**
Marc's journey began in Sidney, NY, where he discovered his identity on the baseball field. He started playing at the age of seven in the Pee-Wee leagues on River Street and progressed through various levels: Little League, modified, junior varsity, and varsity school ball. He 
continued to play in Babe Ruth, Legion ball in Oxford-Norwich, and collegiate summer leagues with the Binghamton Knights. The lessons he learned on those fields-hard work, humility, and the importance of not taking shortcuts-became the foundation for everything that followed.
Marc pursued his education and athletic career at Dominican College in Blauvelt, NY (now known as Dominican University of New York) from 1992 to 1996. During his senior year, he earned both All-Conference and All-American honors.
In 1996, Marc signed with the Catskill Cougars of the Northeast League, where the team won the Northeast League Championship that same year. He went on to pitch for several teams, including the Sioux City Explorers in 1997, participating in Spring Training with the Atlanta Braves in 1998, and playing for the Albany-Colonie Diamond Dogs, the Johnstown Johnnies (1998-1999), the Brockton Rox and the Long Island Ducks (both in 2003), the Traveling Aces in 2004, and the Shreveport Sports in 2005.
Due to his Italian heritage, which grants him dual citizenship, Marc joined the Caserta Baseball Club in Italy's Serie A1 in 2000. Over six seasons, he pitched for Caserta, Bologna, and Grosseto, finishing with a record of 12 wins and 13 losses, a 3.05 ERA, and 19 saves in 99 total appearances. Opponents batted just .222 against him during this time.
Marc had the honor of representing Team Italy in several major international competitions. He participated in the 2000 European Championship in Holland, where Italy won a bronze medal, followed by the 2001 European Championship in Germany, where they secured a silver medal. He also played in the 2001 Baseball World Cup in Taiwan and the 2005 European Championship in the Czech Republic, which resulted in another silver medal.
The pinnacle of his career came in 2000 when Marc was selected to compete in the Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. Representing Team Italy at the 2000 Summer Olympics was the greatest honor of his baseball career. During the tournament, he pitched 5? shutout innings, including 3? scoreless innings in a thrilling extra-inning victory over the host nation, Australia-one of only two wins for Italy in the Games. Standing on the mound under the Olympic lights-thousands of miles away from Sidney, NY-was the realization of a dream achieved through years of sacrifice and determination. It was a full-circle moment for him, going from the back fields of Delaware County to the world's grandest sporting stage.
In 2000, Marc was honored when his game-worn jersey and game-winning baseball were placed in the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, a recognition that held significant meaning for him in the very town where he was born. Being honored alongside sports legends in the birthplace of baseball was a profoundly grateful moment for him.
After retiring from baseball, Marc found a new purpose in public service by joining the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. He has served as an NC State Trooper from 2010 to the present. Just as he did in baseball, his service has been grounded in discipline, teamwork, and integrity. Marc shares, "I take pride in protecting my community, leading with honor, and helping to develop the next generation of law enforcement professionals."
Reflecting on his journey, Marc notes, "This journey has never been just about baseball; it's been about commitment, growth, and staying true to the values I learned as a young athlete at home. I owe everything to the people who supported me-my family, coaches, teammates, and this incredible community."
Marc has lived in Raleigh, NC, since 2000 and has continued to serve as an NC State Trooper throughout these years.
