A faint cheer of "WE TRY HARDER" echoed through the Sidney gym for years following the 1991-92 girls' basketball season. Eleven individuals walked onto the court in November and through their hard work and dedication, they walked off in March, a very successful basketball team.
The fevered excitement these young ladies created for this community and their many fans will not be soon forgotten. Their enthusiasm, dedication, and desire to be successful carried on the tradition of winning girls' basketball teams at Sidney for years to come. Early in their basketball careers, they realized there was no "I" in "TEAM". The only way to succeed and remain not only a good team but a championship team was to play as "One", not as individuals.
On their way to compiling a 24-3 record, the Lady Warriors brought home many team and individual honors, Including Sidney Tip-off Tournament Champions, A.B. Doyle Tournament Champions, sus Division I League Champions, SUS Overall Champions, Section IV Class C Champions. Region III Class Champions, and NYS State Semi-Finalist.
This team of once-young ladies, and now-grown women, will not allow their legacy to be forgotten. This amazing team touched so many people's lives in a special way and left them with memories that have and will last a lifetime. Wide-eyed little girls watched them in wonder and dreamed of someday being them. The pride and commitment this team of athletes gave to the Sidney Lady Warriors basketball program was second to none and after 32 years they are being recognized as an SCSAA Sports Hall of Fame Legacy Team.
