Throughout his four-year high school career, Graham was a four-sport student-athlete, participating in soccer, winter track, tennis, & basketball, and spring track, received numerous awards and accolades. During his senior year, 1998, Graham was awarded the Ralph Pyle Memorial Trophy for Most Outstanding Male Senior Athlete.
At the end of his freshman soccer season, Graham was asked to join the Varsity team that went on to win the 1994 Section IV Championship, Sidney's first in soccer. He greatly appreciated the opportunity to learn from the upperclassmen he looked up to, mainly Tommy Dutcher, Rob Munro, Andy Bagley, Nick Brandt, and Travis Smith. He played tennis in his freshman and sophomore years under Coach Lorraine Butcher and received a Second Team All-League nomination.
Basketball was his first love, but after a disappointing individual performance and team loss in the Section IV Championship in soccer game his sophomore year, he decided to train with the winter track team to improve his speed and conditioning, unfortunately forgoing his sophomore year on the JV hoops team with Coach Finnegan. The transition to track significantly improved his play on the soccer field and allowed him to help his team get back to the Section IV championship game the following year. This team started the year with a dismal 1-6-1 record, but with the leadership of Coach Hornung, and seniors Chris Doi, Todd DeCocker, and Steve Armstrong, the team was able to orchestrate a complete turn-around and advance through league and Section IV tournament play, only to suffer a 3-2 loss to Trumansburg in the closing minutes of the championship game.
Graham was a tri-captain of the soccer team his senior year with Ryan Boyle and Sean McCann, and the team saw a tremendous amount of success. Graham scored the lone goal in the first half against rival Oneonta, at that time the 15th-ranked team in the nation. The team suffered a heartbreaking loss in overtime of the Section IV semifinals to eventual champion, Seton Catholic. At the conclusion of his Sidney soccer career, Graham set team records for Most Career Assists and Most Assists in a Season. He was #2 on the all-time list for Career Goals, Goals in a Season, Points in a Season, and Career Points.
During his junior year in winter track, Graham served as co-captain and started to see some improvements in his times and was very encouraged when his sprint medley relay team with Steve Mister, Jeff Bell, and Nick Reyes set a new school record. In spring track his junior year, he qualified for the NY State Championship meet in the 400m Hurdles. In the summer of 1997, Graham played for the Central Region Soccer team in the Empire State Games, held in Albany.
During his senior year of indoor track, Graham experienced his most cherished high school athletic experience, when his 4x400m relay team of Mark Porter, Nick Reyes, and Adam Honsaker broke the school record and won the Section IV Championship, which qualified them for the NY State Championship at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse. Graham also broke school records that indoor season in the 300m, 400m, and qualified for the NY State meet in the 300m. For his final spring track season, Graham continued to improve in his favorite race, the 400m Hurdles, and ran to first-place finishes at the League Championships at Hartwick College, as well as the Section IV Championship in Ithaca, qualifying him for the NY State Championship. In the summer of 1998, Graham competed in the 400m Hurdles for the Central Region team in the Empire State Games, held at Hofstra University.
Upon arriving at Villanova University in August of 1998, Graham informed the soccer coach that he would not try out for the soccer team as an anticipated walk-on, and instead re-introduced himself to the coaching staff of the Track & Field team, as he attended their camp the previous summer. Tom was awarded a spot on the team after fall training was completed and competed for the Wildcats throughout his college career. He was very grateful to be a member of such an accomplished program, as well as the opportunity to compete at meets such as the Big East Championships in the 400m Hurdles, and the famed Penn Relays in the 4x400m relay. Tom continues to stay involved with the program, as he is a member of the Villanova T&F Alumni Board, which organizes various events throughout the year. He is most grateful for the lifelong friendships that he formed during these four years on the team, as well as the friendships across decades of alumni in the 'Nova T&F family.
Graham is married to his wife, Christy, who was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. They met at Villanova, where Christy was an accomplished member of the swim team. They have five children: Reilly (15), Jack (13), Finn (11), Kerrianna (9), and Aislinn (3). They spend a fair amount of time transporting their kids to their respective sports activities and have enjoyed participating in family service trips over the past few years, most recently in the Dominican Republic and Zambia.
Graham is a Senior Vice President at Bank of America Private Bank in Philadelphia, where he oversees a team that specializes in assisting high-net-worth families with investment management, banking, loans, trust services, and wealth transfer strategies. He currently isn't as active or as fast as he was during his days on the Warrior and Wildcat tracks, but he enjoys competing in the Murph Challenge every Memorial Day weekend. "The Murph" is a fundraiser for The Lieutenant Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation, and includes a one-mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, and 300 squats, followed by another one-mile run.
