Field Hockey 20-0-2 NY State Champions

So many times Sidney Field Hockey played state caliber ball but would fall "just short" to a much larger school. Two trips to the State Finals were proof of that. But then 1991's season unfolded and changed that reputation for good. The Lady Warriors won hockey games in many ways - 2-0 squeakers...12-0 stampedes, two come-from behind 3-1 scores in the first two rounds of the state playoffs and finally, they nursed a 1-0 lead just moments into the Class A final versus Mahopac at Hartwick College and made it hold up. Coach Mary Morrison's Warriors had done it! Moreover, the win was Mary's 200th, which at the time was one of the state's all-time best. The team played together, its defense netted 13 shutouts and no one knew who would score the next goal. As a Class C school, they set the tone for Section IV Field Hockey being a team game. They were, as Tina Turner sang that year, "Simply The Best"
